Caprese Sandwich

 



Ingredients (for 1 sandwich, scale as needed):

- 2 slices of  crusty bread (ciabatta, sourdough, or baguette)  

- 1 medium  ripe tomato , sliced  

- 4-5 oz (120-150g)  fresh mozzarella, sliced  

- 6-8  fresh basil leaves 

- 1 tbsp  extra virgin olive oil 

- 1 tbsp  balsamic glaze (or balsamic vinegar)  

Salt & black pepper* to taste  

- Optional:  

  - 1 tsp  pesto (spread on bread)  

  - A pinch of  red pepper flakes

  - A drizzle of  honey (for a sweet touch)  


Instructions: 

1. Toast the bread (optional) – Lightly toast or grill the bread for extra crunch.  

2. Layer the ingredients:

   - If using pesto, spread a thin layer on one or both slices.  

   - Arrange mozzarella slices on the bread.  

   - Add tomato slices on top.  

   - Sprinkle with salt & pepper.  

   - Tuck fresh basil leaves between the layers.  

3. Drizzle with olive oil and balsamic glaze.  

4. Assemble the sandwich, press gently, and slice in half.  


Serving Suggestion: 

- Pair with a  side salad or  chips for a complete meal.  

- Best enjoyed fresh but can be wrapped for a picnic (drain excess moisture if making ahead).
